Our Engagements
Three scoped engagements.
Each for a distinct moment.
We offer three advisory engagements, each defined by scope, duration and fee. They are designed to address the particular kinds of questions that arise for principals of established Malaysian firms.
Return to HomeHow We Approach Our Work
Each engagement begins with a conversation — unhurried, without an agenda beyond understanding what the principal is carrying. We do not arrive with a framework or a set of slides. We arrive with questions, and we listen carefully to the answers.
From that listening, we prepare a short brief that captures the principal's situation as we understand it. We share it before the engagement proper begins, so the principal can correct anything we have misread. Only once the brief reflects the situation accurately do we begin the substantive work.
The substantive work takes a written form. We do not produce presentations or facilitate workshops. We produce a considered written reading of the questions the principal has brought to us — brief, well-reasoned, and held in strict confidence.
At the close of each engagement, we offer a short debrief session in which the principal can raise questions about what we have written. After that, unless an extended arrangement is agreed, the engagement closes cleanly.
Listen first
Every engagement opens with careful, unhurried listening before any reading is offered.
Write clearly
Deliverables are brief, written documents — not presentations, not frameworks.
Hold in confidence
All output is for the named principal alone, under mutual NDA from the first day.
Engagement 01 · Four Weeks
Senior Strategic Reading
A four-week engagement for chief executives and managing directors of established Malaysian firms who would value a structured outside reading of the few questions presently on their desk. We sit with the principal and one chosen colleague, prepare a short brief drawn from those conversations, and return a written reading of two or three matters worth considering further. The deliverable is brief and held in strict confidence; the document is intended to support the principal's own thinking.
What is included
- Initial listening session with principal and one chosen colleague (half day)
- Short briefing document prepared and shared for principal's review
- Written reading of two or three matters worth further consideration
- Debrief session to discuss the written reading (up to one hour)
- Mutual NDA from day one; all materials for principal's use only

- 1.Introductory conversation and scope agreement
- 2.Listening session with principal and colleague (Week 1)
- 3.Brief prepared and reviewed by principal (Week 2)
- 4.Written reading prepared (Weeks 3–4)

Engagement 02 · Twelve Weeks
Board Composition & Succession Advisory
A considered engagement for chairs of established Malaysian firms whose boards are approaching a period of change — the retirement of a long-serving director, the addition of a non-executive, the gradual succession of the chair's own role. Over twelve weeks we sit with the chair and the company secretary, hold confidential conversations with each director, and prepare a written advisory on the considerations the chair may wish to weigh in shaping the next composition of the board. The work is conducted in strict confidence and is intended for the chair's private use.
What is included
- Opening sessions with chair and company secretary
- Confidential one-to-one conversation with each sitting director
- Written advisory on board composition considerations for chair's private use
- Optional: written profiles of suggested criteria for open positions
- Debrief session with chair to discuss the advisory

- 2.Review of board documents and governance record (Weeks 1–2)

Engagement 03 · Twelve-Month Retainer
Group-Level Senior Advisory Retainer
A senior, twelve-month advisory retainer for chairs and chief executives of established Malaysian groups who would value a thoughtful counterpart available to them through the year. The retainer includes monthly half-day sessions with the principal, a short written note after each session capturing the questions discussed and the decisions taken, and ad hoc availability for shorter conversations between sessions. We attend up to two board meetings as observers each year if the principal so wishes.
What is included

- Written note after each session capturing questions discussed and decisions taken
- Ad hoc availability for shorter conversations between sessions (response within one working day)

Standards Applied Across All Engagements
These are not policies stated for display. They are the practical requirements we hold ourselves to in every engagement we undertake.
Mutual Non-Disclosure
A bilateral NDA governs every engagement. Neither party discusses the relationship or its content with outside parties.
Principal-Led Delivery
Every engagement is led from start to finish by a named principal of the firm. There is no delegation to junior staff.
Data Protection
All documents are stored securely and returned or destroyed at engagement close. Full compliance with Malaysia's PDPA 2010.
Written Scope Agreement
Scope is agreed in writing before work begins. It does not change without the principal's written agreement.
No Conflict of Interest
We screen for conflicts before accepting any engagement and disclose anything that may be relevant before proceeding.
Candid, Considered Output
We write what we find. The written output reflects our genuine reading, not a position shaped by what we expect the principal wishes to hear.
Not sure which engagement fits your situation?
An introductory conversation is the simplest way to find out. We will listen to where you are and offer a candid view of which engagement, if any, might be of use.
