Senior Business Advisory · Kuala Lumpur
A considered outside reading
for those who lead.
We work quietly alongside chief executives, managing directors and board chairs of established Malaysian firms — bringing a structured, candid perspective to the questions that matter most.
Our Services
Three carefully scoped engagements, each designed for a particular moment in a principal's working life.
Four-Week Engagement
Senior Strategic Reading
A structured outside reading of the few questions presently on the principal's desk. We prepare a short brief from conversations with the CEO and one chosen colleague, returning a written reading of two or three matters worth further consideration.
- For MDs and CEOs of firms above RM 80M revenue
- Deliverable held in strict confidence
- Intended to support the principal's own thinking
Twelve-Week Engagement
Board Composition & Succession Advisory
For chairs facing a period of board change — a retiring director, a new non-executive, or a gradual succession of the chair's own role. We hold confidential conversations with each director and prepare a written advisory for the chair's private use.
- Confidential director interviews included
- Written advisory for chair's private use
- Conducted with company secretary
Twelve-Month Retainer
Group-Level Senior Advisory Retainer
A senior advisory retainer for chairs and chief executives who value a thoughtful counterpart available through the year. Monthly half-day sessions, a written note after each, and ad hoc availability between sessions. Board observation available if wished.
- Monthly half-day sessions with the principal
- Written note capturing decisions after each session
- Up to two board meetings as observer per year
Why Principals Choose to Work With Us
We hold no stake in the outcome of any decision we discuss. That independence is the basis of everything we offer.
Unconflicted Counsel
We carry no advisory mandates with third parties, no placement fees and no commercial affiliations that might colour what we say.
Senior-Level Engagement
Every engagement is led personally by a principal of the firm. There are no junior teams, no handoffs and no templated frameworks applied without thought.
Strict Confidentiality
The conversations we have and the documents we produce remain with the principal. We do not discuss client matters or use engagements as case studies.
Written, Considered Deliverables
Our output takes a written form — concise, well-reasoned and suited to a principal's pace. We do not produce lengthy reports designed to justify fees.
Deep Malaysian Market Knowledge
Our work draws on long familiarity with the governance conventions, business culture and ownership structures particular to established Malaysian firms.
Unhurried Process
Each engagement begins with listening. We take the time needed to understand the particular context before we offer any reading of what we find.
Is there a question on your desk worth examining together?
A brief introductory conversation costs nothing and carries no obligation. We are glad to speak with you, or with a colleague you nominate, to understand whether our work may be of use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Some questions we are often asked before an engagement begins.
What kind of firms do you typically work with?
We work with established Malaysian firms — those with a settled ownership structure, a functioning board, and a principal who is already doing the work of leading well. Our engagements are not suited to early-stage ventures. The questions we address are typically those that arise when a firm has reached a size and complexity where an outside reading is genuinely useful.
How do you keep our conversations confidential?
We work under a mutual non-disclosure agreement from the first conversation. All written materials are shared only with the named principal and, where agreed, one designated colleague. We do not discuss the substance of any engagement with parties outside it, and we do not refer to client relationships in any public context.
What does a first conversation involve?
An introductory conversation is typically around forty-five minutes and is conducted at the principal's preferred location or by telephone. We listen, ask a small number of questions, and offer a candid view of whether and how we might be useful. There is no obligation on either side at this stage.
Can we begin with one engagement and extend to a retainer later?
Yes. A number of our ongoing retainer arrangements began with a shorter engagement. If, after a four-week or twelve-week engagement, the principal finds the working relationship useful, we are open to discussing a longer arrangement. We do not encourage extensions as a matter of course — the arrangement must serve the principal's needs.
Are your fees negotiable?
The fees quoted represent the full cost of the engagement as scoped. Where a principal's circumstances warrant a variation in scope, we are willing to discuss what an adjusted arrangement might look like. We do not vary fees without a corresponding adjustment to scope.
Do you work with firms outside Kuala Lumpur?
We have worked with principals based elsewhere in Peninsular Malaysia. Where in-person meetings are a meaningful part of the engagement, we factor travel into the arrangement. We are happy to discuss the practicalities during an introductory conversation.
